In 2007, Wichita State University requested a change in its status with the Higher Learning Commission to offer five degrees through distance delivery.
The Report is organized around the five review criteria. Introduction includes a brief History/Profile of Wichita State University and the university's responses to the concerns raised in the last (1987) NCA review.
"The new mission of WSU should focus its efforts on meeting the needs of the metropolitan area, with special attention devoted to the high percentage of non-traditional and minority students.
The report is focused on the development of doctoral programs. It provides basic data on the programs and address concerns expressed by the North Central Association accrediting team as a result of its visit to Wichita State.
"An overview and assessment of the University and its fundamental processes are presented. Wichita State's development as a comprehensive university with an urban mission is highlighted. Special focus is directed to the University's mission and goals, educational programs, graduate and doctoral programs, students, faculty, and resources. Both accomplishments and areas of ongoing concern are identified.
The progress report provides general information concerning Wichita State University and its development since 1969 and individual chapters on the development of each of the three doctoral programs: Aeronautical Engineering, Chemistry, and Logopedics.
Pt 1 provides data on the following processes and units: Purposes -- Control and administration -- Students --Student life -- Performance of graduates -- Faculty -- Instructional program -- Library -- Physical plant -- Financial resources. Pt. 2 is focused on Non-academic characteristics of Wichita State University Freshmen, 1965 - 1968 -- [examples of events] -- WSU Handbook for Freshmen 1969-1970 -- [examples of student services].
The institutional self-study undertaken in 1969 is the result of a decision by Wichita State University to seek preliminary accreditation from the North Central Association in order to initiate programs at the doctoral level in cooperation with the University of Kansas. These programs include the areas of aeronautical engineering, chemistry , and history. The University also wishes to obtain preliminary accreditation with a view toward reopening in the near future its own doctoral program in logopedics and to obtain full accreditation for its Specialist in Educational Administration program.
