Active Shooter: There are three recommendations for personal safety. Each individual needs to make a decision about which choice is best in a particular situation.

  1. Flee the area
  2. Shelter in place
  3. Comply, play dead or fight for your life

To give patrons quality service, we must meet or exceed their expectations as described on the Shocker PROUD Service Standards website.

Criteria:
  • Professional: Remember your manners. We should endeavor to deal with each person we come into contact with in a competent and respectful way.
  • Responsive: Be aware of those in need. We should strive to offer prompt service and exceed the expectations of those we serve.
  • Open: Be willing to see someone else's perspective. We should always present ourselves in a welcoming, inclusive and accessible manner and not be defensive when others have a view or opinion that differs from our own.
  • Understanding: Lend an empathetic ear. We should always try to show genuine interest in the concerns and questions of others.
  • Dependable: Say what you will do and do what you say in a timely manner.

The library has established the following policies. Please read them and ask your supervisor if you have any questions.

What is a service animal?
  • A service animal is trained to perform a specific function or support for a person with an impairment
  • Service animals may enter any location their person may enter, such as Ablah Library
  • If you are unsure if an animal is a service animal, you are only permitted to ask these two questions:
  1. Is this a service animal required because of a disability?
  2. What is this service animal trained to do for you?
  • Other questions, like "what is your disability" are violations of the person's privacy
