Checking out Textbooks

Textbook Reserve contains materials in high demand that are either the required, supplemental, or recommended reading/viewing. These materials are placed in Reserve on a temporary basis by instructors for currently enrolled WSU students to use that semester. Textbook Reserve loan periods range from 2-hour in-library use to a 4 week loan depending on instructor request.

There are also a few textbooks on Reserve at the Music Libraries. They may be found by doing a Title or Author search in the online catalog.  You may also ask at the service desks at the branch libraries.

Fines for Textbooks
Fines on textbooks are $0.10 per minute for In-Library Use Materials.  There is a ten-minute grace period.

Fines on textbooks for books than can leave the library is $.50 a day.If a textbook is lost or not returned, the borrower will be charged the full current replacement cost plus a $10.00 processing fee.

If a textbook is lost or not returned, the borrower will be charged the full current replacement cost plus a $10.00 processing fee.

Locating a Textbook

To determine if your textbook is in the collection, use the library’s online catalog. In the catalog, perform a Basic Search by Title or Author for the desired textbook.

To bring up a list of all textbooks in the Textbook Collection using the online catalog, click here.

You may also search for textbooks by course number.  Follow these steps:

  1. In the online catalog Basic Search screen, type in the first few letters of your course name, such as CHEM for Chemistry or NURS for Nursing.
  2. Next to ADD Filter there is a drop down menu. Click on the arrow and select “Textbook Collection.”
  3. You may also enter the complete course name, such as AE 525 or CJ 392. Be sure to put a space between the letters and numbers.

More Information

Though the Textbook Collection has proved to be popular among our patrons, it is far from a comprehensive sample of the books used WSU courses. If your instructor has assigned a textbook that is not part of our collection, you may request that the library purchase the title using the Book Purchase Request Form.

If you have questions or suggestions about the collection, or wish to make a donation of a textbook in current use that is not in the collection, please call the Reserve Specialist at (316) 978-5110 or email us at librarystaff@wichita.edu
