As you may have noticed the 8th Edition of the MLA Handbook was significantly different from past versions. The 9th edition of the handbook did not change any of the elements of the style, but merely clarified and expanded on the 8th edition. Rather than having unique citations for various publication formats, there is now a more generalized approach. Some additional changes to the works-cited page include:
- terms like editor, translator, illustrator, etc. are no longer abbreviated
- a page number is identified as "p." and page ranges are identified as "pp."
- the volume and number of a journal is now presented as "vol. X, no. X"
- publisher names are now given in full with the exceptions of "Co., U, P, UP"
- placeholders for unknown data (such as n.d. for no date) are no longer used
