The Human Performance Institute was co-founded in 1991 as LGE Performance Systems by renowned performance psychologist Dr. Jim Loehr, author of 15 books including the national bestseller The Power of Full Engagement, which he co-authored, and Dr. Jack Groppel, internationally recognized authority on human performance, fitness, and nutrition, and author of The Corporate Athlete.

A pioneer in the field of human energy management, the Institute's 30-plus year history is deeply rooted in the arena of high performance in the face of enormous stress. Working with elite performers, like Olympic gold medalists, career athletes, Hostage Rescue Teams, and Fortune 500 CEOs who thrive in high-pressure settings, the Human Performance Institute created a "living laboratory" to improve resilience in the face of non-stop stress.

Workforce performance takes on new significance in our economic future. Performance Improvement (PI), initially called Human Performance Technology (HPT), is the systematic approach to improving productivity and competence – the key to global competitiveness. Although training and education are critical to increasing competitiveness, meeting the educational challenge is only part of the answer. An effective human resource system requires a focus on performance aligned with an outstanding learning system. To improve performance, we must manage the human performance improvement system. That system must be the core of an organization's human resource efforts if it is to maintain its competitiveness in the long run.

HPRC's human performance optimization (HPO) website is for U.S. Warfighters, their families, and those in the field of HPO who support them. The goal is Total Force Fitness: Warfighters optimized to carry out their mission as safely and effectively as possible.
