Finding a Book in the Library's Online Catalog

Finding Articles Using SmartSearch
This tutorial will show you how to search for articles using SmartSearch, a library search engine that provides results from a variety of different databases subscribed to by the University Libraries. The quiz questions for this module are built into the tutorial.

Look for links to "Hot Topics," "Special Reports," etc. for finding news on the topics of interest to you, then use filters to sort by date, regional source, narrower subjects, as needed.
Note that multiple databases should be searched for various local, national, and international sources and media.

You may filter by books/ebooks, date, subject headings and title as well. If you find a book that interests you - pay attention to the subject headings assigned to those books and then use those as keywords for searching the catalog: for example - "gender identity united states," or "native american women culture," "african american biography," "working class united states biography" or "asian american experience united states," etc. [note: biography will include autobiographies. You may also want to include "juvenile fiction" or other keywords depending on the literature you are interested in reading.]
You can also click on the "Call Number" listed for books and virtually browse the books on the shelves near the one you've found for other titles (if you are unable to browse the library shelves in-person!
