Circulation

Circulation Page - A description of services available to WSU Students, Faculty, Staff and Community Users at Ablah Library

Holds

Holds are used to allow patrons to reserve a library item. Holds placed on an item that is currently checked out will not affect that item's due date. Patrons may not place holds on Reserve materials or DVDs.

There are two types of holds:

  • 24-Hour Hold: This type of hold can be used to request that the library reserve materials that are currently checked in. To request a 24-hour hold on an item, please call the Circulation Desk at 316-978-3582.
  • 7-Day Hold: This type of hold may be used to place a patron in the queue for an item that is currently checked out. Students, faculty and staff may request a 7-day hold through the online catalog regardless of whether or not the requested material is currently checked in.

Recalls

Recall policies are used by libraries to help improve access to high demand material. Ablah Library's recall policy allows WSU students, faculty, and staff to place recalls on items that are already checked out. Patrons may not place recalls on Course Reserve materials or DVDs.

  1. When a recall is placed, the patron who has the item is informed by email notice that the item has been recalled and the item now has a new recalled due date.Patrons have 3 days to return a recalled item before it is considered lost.
  2. Items not returned by the recall date will be considered lost and replacement costs plus a $20 non-refundable processing fee will be transferred to WSU Accounts Receivable. You will be able to pay online through your myWSU Account Portal. https://mywsu.wichita.edu/

  3. All recall notices are sent to the email on file. Be sure to check your email account frequently. The library is not responsible for undelivered or lost recall notices.

How to Avoid Recall Fines

  1. Be aware that materials may be recalled at any time, even when classes are not in session. All patrons have a 2 week guaranteed minimum for all items.
  2. Once an item has been recalled, the original due date is void. The borrower must return the item by the date specified on the recall notice (within 3 days).
  3. Recalled items cannot be renewed. The borrower who is relinquishing the item, however, has the right to recall it for their use. When the item is returned, the library will notify the requestor of its availability.
  4. Recall fines are not canceled because the borrower was out of town. Borrowers should:
    • Return Library materials before leaving for break, vacation, sabbatical or University business.
    • Arrange with someone who has access to your Library books to handle Library-related mail in your absence and return any recalled items.
    • Check email messages and keep mailing addresses current.
    • Return recalled items to the Library by the date specified.
