Information literacy is the basis of lifelong learning and is directly tied to critical thinking. The Information Literacy Standards for Higher Education, developed by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), articulate the skills needed for a student to become information literate: recognizing an information need, accessing information effectively and efficiently, critically evaluating information and its source, and using information ethically and responsibly to accomplish a specific purpose. Incorporating information literacy objectives into your research assignments allows students to develop their critical thinking skills and increase comprehension of course content.
