About Manuscripts and Finding Aids:

For over 50 years, Special Collections has collected, preserved, arranged and described manuscript collections to provide research opportunities for students, scholars and community users. The collections, now numbering over 500, cover a wide range of topics, with emphasis on aviation, Wichita and Kansas history, women's organizations, abolition, U.S. Civil War and entrepreneurship. The various holdings are comprised of papers of organizations and individuals, diaries, company records, correspondence and other materials which are described by finding aids, written guides telling about the contents and arrangement of collections and providing context for how, why and by whom the collections were created.
