IME 590 / 690 Senior Design

This guide should be used as a resource for students in IME Senior Design as they complete projects with assigned companies.

Searching Company-Owned Patents

Searching Company-Owned Patents

1. Visit https://patents.google.com/

2. Click on "Advanced Search" at the bottom of the screen

3. Search for a company's name under "Assignee" on the left side of the screen

4. For more resources on patent searching, see https://libraries.wichita.edu/patent

*Note that a company is not a person, therefore it is often a company employee or outside inventor that has invented the technology being patented, then that person "assigns" the intellectual property (patent) to the company, which becomes the "Assignee." Often, employees that work for a company are obligated under employment agreements to assign the rights of their intellectual property to the company they work for, especially if they are using the company's time, equipment, facilities, or materials.
