*Note that a company is not a person, therefore it is often a company employee or outside inventor that has invented the technology being patented, then that person "assigns" the intellectual property (patent) to the company, which becomes the "Assignee." Often, employees that work for a company are obligated under employment agreements to assign the rights of their intellectual property to the company they work for, especially if they are using the company's time, equipment, facilities, or materials.
