Taking Breaks in Ablah

Take a break in Ablah Library! Some things to do:

  • Borrow a book from the Popular Reading collection.
  • Watch a show or movie from the Popular Movie collection. (Requires a Blu-ray or DVD player; a portable DVD player can be checked out from the Circulation Desk.)
  • Use a stationary bicycle with a view of campus on the main floor and second floor. (We have two.)
  • Play in the V-R Zone.
  • Play with the 3D pen for up to two hours. (Borrow from the Circulation Desk.)
  • Borrow the drawing tablet from the Circulation Desk for up to three days.
  • Watch TV. There are two large screen televisions in Ablah Library's Learning Commons. Audio is broadcast over designated FM channels. TV/FM receivers that receive sound on designated FM stations may be borrowed from the Circulation Desk.
  • Grab a snack. Vending machines are located in the 24-hour study room in the north room.

Take a break with University Libraries collections!

  • Watch a streaming video on your laptop or phone. (Includes Swank, Kanopy, BBC Video Collection, and New World Cinema: Independent Features and Shorts; see link below.)
  • Listen to streaming music on Naxos. (Purchase earbuds or borrow headphones from the Circulation Desk.)
  • Read a book! Novels and other fiction and bestselling fiction can be found in the Reading Room, but we have LOTS of other fiction and non fiction in the stacks. See the page On the Cheap found in the left column for details.
  • View displays outside the Special Collections Reading Room on the lower level and on the main floor of Ablah Library. Library materials in the display cases on the main floor may be checked out.

Getting hungry?

Food and beverages are allowed in Ablah Library! Vending machines are located in the 24-hour study room in the north room. There are a few things to consider when eating in Ablah Library. Remember that the entire 3rd floor is a quiet zone, so eat very quietly here! Spills and food residue can damage expensive library materials and equipment. Library clients are asked to dispose of all trash in the trash receptacles located throughout the building. No food or drink is permitted in the Music Library.
