University Libraries has LOTS of databases and other electronic resources. Most of these index articles and have full-text articles. Some these article databases are interdisciplinary while others are specialized. Electronic resources also include business directories, encyclopedias, streaming media, and tests. Click the link below for the full list of electronic resources available at University Libraries.
SmartSearch does NOT search all library databases. Also, databases with special features, like MEDLINE or MathSciNet, are not as useful through SmartSearch. Be sure to think critically about what information you want to find before you select a specific database or use a search engine like SmartSearch. Here are just a few of the more popular databases not included in SmartSearch. Click here for a complete list of library databases.

The Library Catalog searches the physical collections of University Libraries. This includes the Government Documents collections, Special Collections and University Archives, reference books, maps, music scores, music sound recordings, and DVD/Videos. This list also reflects the filters available in the catalog. In other words, you can limit your search to any of these collections.
Many of these types of materials are also available electronically, and the catalog will find most of our electronic collections in these areas as well.
However, most of the items you find in the Library Catalog are going to be books, and most of the more current books in our collection are e-books. SmartSearch also indexes everything you will find in a Library Catalog search, but if you know you want a book or want to limit your search to one of the collections listed above, it is more efficient to use the Library Catalog rather than SmartSearch.
The Library Catalog is also useful to see if University Libraries subscribes to a specific journal title. Print and online journal access is found through the Library Catalog, if you do a search on a specific journal title.
The Library Catalog can also be used to renew books and set searching preferences (see #1), save titles for later (see #2), and save searches to be used again (see #3).
