Welcome to the course guide for SPAN 833: Survey of Spanish Literature I (to 1700)

This guide includes resources that will assist you in completing your class assignments and research. Most of these resources are available online; however, only WSU students, staff and faculty may access resources with the  icon. MALIC

Visit the Music and Languages Innovation Center (MALIC)!

Located in Jardine Hall, room 313, the Center houses both the Savaiano-Cress Language Lab and the Thurlow Lieurance Music Library. The Language Lab provides technical assistance for language study, a reference collection of international language dictionaries, as well as audio and video resources held in the University Libraries. It's also a wonderful place for study between classes.

Closed Weekends

Research Workshops

Savvy Scholar workshops cover essential topics such as effective research strategies, information literacy, and academic writing. These skills are vital for academic and professional excellence.

WSU undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff are all invited to attend.

  • All workshops except library tours are offered both in person and online at the same time for a hybrid experience.  
  • Registration is required for online attendance and is optional if attending in person.
  • The Microsoft Teams link is provided with event registration.
  • Click on the heading of each event to register. 
  • All registrants receive a reminder email 1 day before the workshop. 

See the pages listed in the left column for more information about each topic, including any handouts and digital presentations that might be used in the workshop.

If you are Deaf/HoH, and would like to participate in this workshop, please note this in your registration form and register at least 7 days before the workshop takes place so we can arrange for an interpreter to be present in the meeting for you.

Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a powerful technology to make maps in many academic disciplines. This workshop will introduce the basics of GIS and get you started making maps with ArcGIS Online, software that is the gateway to the exciting world of GIS.

Learn GIS basics, harness spatial data, and unlock the power of mapping in your work.

Writing an Awesome Literature Review

Learn all the steps to create a literature review, from conducting comprehensive research to synthesizing perspectives to presenting your findings.

Data Visualization in ArcGIS Online

ArcGIS Online is software that makes it possible to visualize various types of geospatial data. Doing so helps us to analyze data related to weather, social trends, business, and other topics. This workshop will introduce the major tools for data visualization in ArcGIS Online. We will explore a few different ways to visualize the same data with this online software.

Understanding Populations with US Census Data

Our presenter will guide you through the intricate journey of navigating U.S. Census Data to better understand communities. Whether you're a dedicated researcher or simply intrigued by the power of data, this workshop is tailored for you.

Guest Speaker Dr. Katie Lanning, Assistant Professor of English, will join us for this special event to discuss how she uses GIS software to analyze literature.

Zotero Citation Management Software

Learn to use Zotero to upload citation data from library databases, create new citations in various citation styles, organize citations, and insert citations into a MS Word document.
