Halloween ComicFest Rules and Guidelines

General Guidelines

  • Respect the library and other patrons
    • The library will be open for regular business during this time.  Please be respectful of library patrons not attending the ComicFest and your fellow con-goers.
  • This event is family-friendly.  Please ensure your costume is appropriate for all ages. For more costume guidelines, please visit the Costume Contest Guidelines portion of this guide.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times

Weapons Policy

  • All costume props and weapons are subject to the approval of library staff
  • Live steel (real knives, blades, and swords) are prohibited.
  • Projectile weapons such as water guns, Nerf guns, and bubble blowers are prohibited
  • Realistic looking firearms and realistic bladed weapons must be approved by a library staff member and must be peace bonded (essentially some kind of secure tie that ensures a weapon cannot be drawn from its holster or sheath)
  • We highly encourage orange caps on all costume related firearms
  • Any questionable prop may be inspected by staff at any time and attendee may be asked to remove the prop from the building (lock it in their car) for the duration of the ComicFest
  • Library staff reserve the right to amend these rules without prior notice.  Noncompliance of any rules will result in expulsion from the event

Photo and Video Policy

  • By your presence at this event (or if you are under 18-years old, by your presence and that of your parent or guardian), you hereby consent to the use and reproduction, in whole or in part, by Wichita State University Libraries, of your name, photo and/or likeness, and any statements made by you for the purpose of advertising, marketing, and promotions in any medium throughout the world.
  • You will not have any right to inspect or approve the finished advertisement or promotion and you release Wichita State University Libraries from any and all claims and demands, injuries, losses, costs, damages, and expenses arising out of or in connection with the use of your name, photo and/or likeness, and any statements made by you in the advertisement, including, without limitation, any and all claims for alteration, optical illusion, or faulty mechanical reproduction  and any and all claims for libel, right, publicity, or invasion of privacy.
  • You understand that this release does not obligate Wichita State University Libraries to use your name, photo, likeness, or statements in any advertisement or promotion.
  • If you do not want to have your likeness or statements filmed and potentially used by Wichita State University Libraries, please do not enter the area during filming.
