Workshops in this series will help inventors and entrepreneurs learn how to protect their intellectual property and support their business through research. Students, faculty, and community members are welcome.

Workshops are free and open to the public, however, registration is strongly encouraged.

National Small Business Week Display

      National Small Business Week

      May 5-11, 2019

      For more than 50 years, the President of the United States has issued a
      proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the
      critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. 
      than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create
      about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. For more information

      Wichita State University Libraries is a Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) and serves local entrepreneurs with a variety of resources:

  • Books on a variety of business and intellectual property topics
  • Databases for industry and consumer research
  • Entrepreneurship Research Series workshops given by Meghann Kuhlmann, Business Librarian, Sara Butts, Engineering, Patents, and Trademark Librarian, and Jessica Torres, Information Services Research Assistant
  • Virtual presentations given by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • One-on-one consultations to help you with business, patent, or trademark research
  • Online research guides for entrepreneurs, business research, and intellectual property

Support local start-ups with 1 Million Cups

1 Million Cups is an organization that provides entrepreneurs with a platform to share their start-up businesses and existing businesses with their local community in an effort to grow and find solutions where there are problems. The 1 Million Cups events take place at the Advanced Learning Library (the central branch of the Wichita Public Library located at 711 W. 2nd St. N.) from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesdays. Attendance is free. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for networking. Coffee provided by Reverie Coffee Roasters.

Find a MakerSpace

Makerspaces are the latest trend for inventors looking to create a prototype or for a small business looking for a way to craft their goods. They also provide a great opportunity for makers to meet and collaborate on projects. If you want to check out the large variety of makers in the Wichita area, consider visiting the Wichita Mini Maker Faire at Exploration Place. This year, it will be on April 26 & 27.
