Q: Why am I being asked to log in to a library database when I'm on campus?
A: Make sure you are using the WSU Secure Network. The Guest Network does not allow access to databases and ebooks.
Q: How do I learn how to use Microsoft Suite software?
A: Students can get training through Linkedin Learning, Microsoft Learning guides, Learning Express Library, and Universal Class. There are also a few regular WSU classes. All options are linked from this Microsoft Office for Students page.
A: Employees can get training through ITS.
Q: How do I access library databases when Springshare (LibGuides) are down?
A: Use the Emergency WSU Libraries Website. Also, library staff may be able to access LibGuides in edit mode when the public side is down.
Graduate/doctoral students, other students finishing up coursework (especially in the summer), researchers (especially at NIAR and Physical Therapy), and guest researchers may need access to the network and library databases. The Access Services manager (Cynorra) and Library Resource Sharing Supervisor (Carrye) have access to a server that allows them to add individuals for a fixed amount of time. Email both Cynorra and library.staff@wichita.edu with the request and they can get back to the patron with details about their access.
We can get access to the network and library databases for high school and other groups. Send a ticket to "Windows Server Group" and request an AD network password for the group.
You may need to let new ITS staff know that a user name is already set up for library.wifi which can also be used for guests. University Computing should indicate the expiration date they have used when they confirm completion of the ticket. NOTE that groups reserving Learning Commons computers should be scheduled the library events calendar since this stat will not be caught with instruction stats for an individual librarian.
User names are also already set up for all the Upward Bound groups that stay on campus over the summer. Make a password request for the group, indicating the group name.
