EndNote - Citation Management Software

Installing EndNote

EndNote Desktop is available to all WSU students, faculty, and staff from the myWSU portal or the ITS Resources page for both Mac and Windows users. Follow the installation instructions - Windows users must make sure the License.dat file is extracted and saved with the installation file in order for EndNote to recognize the WSU license.

Once EndNote is installed, you can open the application and create a library to house all your references. It is not recommended to ever create more than one library. Also try to avoid saving it to a directory that is backed up in the cloud (e.g. OneDrive) as this can cause sync issues later on.

Backing Up/Syncing Your Library

Your EndNote library can be backed up to the cloud using a free EndNote Web account and also synced across up to 3 devices so all of them have the same references. To achieve this, find your Settings/Preferences in the EndNote menu (EndNote -> Settings on Mac, or Edit -> Preferences on Windows), then select the Sync preferences. If you do not already have an EndNote Web account, select "Enable Sync" and create one. Otherwise, provide your account credentials and select to sync automatically. The file path in the "Sync this EndNote Library" section should be supplied automatically. It is also possible to create and/or access an EndNote Web account by visiting https://access.clarivate.com/login?app=endnote.
