The Wichita State Common Read was initiated by the Office of First Year Programs to provide students a common experience in their first year at Wichita State University. For the 2020-2021 academic year, the Wichita State Common Read program has selected Some were Paupers, Some were Kings: Dispatches from Kansas by Mark McCormick. As a common read experience, all new students receive a copy of the book at student orientation and Some were Paupers, Some were Kings: Dispatches from Kansas is incorporated into classes such as WSU 101 and Honors 101 as well as various programs outside of the classroom.
