Congregational song has developed through the ages to include plainsong melodies, psalm settings, folk melodies, composed hymn tunes, gospel songs, sacred choruses, spirituals, and canons. All of these categories are included in this work. In 3 volumes, Hymntune Index catalogs over 33,000 melodies sung by congregations world-wide, providing the source of each and listing related materials. Included are incipits and alternate titles, and melodic index. The materials portion includes composer or arranger, publisher and publisher's catalog number, and title. The index is helpful when looking for tunes by a particular composer or arranger, and also for noting the variations of a particular tune. It also allows the reader to compare tunes of similar melodic contours.

Boulanger Initiative Database
This database provides access to thousands of works by women and gender-marginalized composers. By sharing knowledge and resources, BID increases access to works by underrepresented composers, empowering all who wish to diversify classical music programming. The current catalogue focuses on access to both repertoire and information from non-living composers, with an array of filtering options and redirection towards primary resources to streamline your search process. Search options for works include: composer names; composition types; instruments, voice types, ensemble types; languages (vocal works); ranges for year of publication; and publishers.

Thematic Catalogs

A thematic catalogue is an index to a group of musical compositions that incorporates citations of their opening notes (incipits), or principal melodic features (themes), or both. These citations may be given in various forms, such as conventional notes, neumes, tablatures, syllables, numbers, letters or computer codes.

Thematic catalogs of classical music are located in the Music Library, in the general call number area of ML134, in the scores section of the facility. The exception to this is one of the thematic cataloges for the works of Vivaldi, which is located in the Music Library Reference section, due to the helpful tables it contains and the complexity of finding an exact piece by the composer.

Found in Music Library REF ML134.V7 R96, this catalog of Vivaldi’s works contains particularly useful tables, cross-referencing older numbering systems for Vivaldi’s work.
