Poetry and Fiction Reading Series continues
The University Libraries and the Department of English invite you to the next event in the 8th Annual Poetry and Fiction Reading Series. Please join us from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, March 8, on the lower level of Ablah Library for a reading by award-winning author and WSU alumni Marlin "Bart" Barton. Stick around at 4:30 p.m. for a lecture by Barton titled "Criticism and Rejection: Ah, the Writing Life." Both events are free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Fall Reading Event Features WSU Student Authors
The University Libraries and Department of English are hosting several events this fall as part of the 8th Annual Poetry and Fiction Reading Series. April 28th Event to Feature Readings by Student Poets
The final event of the Seventh Annual Poetry and Fiction Reading Series will take place from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the lower level of Ablah Library. This event hosted by the University Libraries and Department of English will feature readings by six MFA student poets from the Department of English's Creative Writing Program. Afghanistan Unveiled: Film and Reception Thursday April 21st
Shaista Wahab, curator of the Arthur Paul Afghanistan Collection at the University of Nebraska at Omaha Library, will present the film "Afghanistan Unveiled: Obstacles & Opportunities for Afghan Women" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in 209 Hubbard Hall. A reception in Ablah Library will follow the film. This event is co-sponsored by University Libraries, the Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology, and the Department of Anthropology. Award-winning poet , Michael McGriff to Present Reading This Thursday, April 14
The University Libraries and Department of English are hosting several events this spring as part of the Seventh Annual Poetry and Fiction Reading Series. The next event is from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 14, and features Michael McGriff, award-winning poet and WSU's Visiting Poet in Residence. Opening Reception for "Afghanistan Lost" Exhibit on April 5th at 3:30
The Wichita State University Libraries, the Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology, and Department of Anthropology are pleased topresent: “Afghanistan Lost: An exhibit of photographs and cultural objects.” The exhibit is located on the main floor of Ablah Library on the WSU campus and is free and open to the public. It runs through May 2, 2011, and features photographs by Dr. Schuyler Jones, Wichita native and former Head, Dept. of Anthropology at Kabul University and Director of the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford. The photographs were taken in the 1950’s and 60’s prior to the Soviet invasion. The cultural items on exhibit were loaned by Dr. Jones.
The Opening Reception is April 5, 3:30 pm on the first floor of Ablah Library. A coordinating film presentation and program is offered on Thursday, April 21 at 7:00 pm in Hubbard Hall, Room 209 with a reception following on the first floor of Ablah Library. Shaista Wahab, Curator of the Arthur Paul Afghanistan Collection, University of Nebraska at Omaha, will present the film “Afghanistan Unveiled: Obstacles & Opportunities for
Afghan Women.” Ms. Wahab served as the oral history researcher for this film. This presentation is part of the David and Sally Jackman Visiting Scholars Series. Refreshments will be served at events.

Poetry Reading this Sunday Featuring Jeanine Hathaway

National Gaming Day @ Your Library
Join the fun at Ablah Library for a celebration of National Gaming Day @ your library . Hasbro, the official national sponsor, will be sending Monopoly Deal, Scrabble Slam, and Pictureka. North Star Games is providing Wits & Wagers Family, and members of the library are lending Wii, Playstation 3, Apples to Apples, Scattergories, Set, Piction-ary, Guesstures, and others. The event is scheduled to run from 5:30-7:30 pm on Friday, November 12th on the main floor of Ablah Library. Pizza and beverages will be served. This event is co-sponsored by the Student Activities Council.
Reading This Thursday, October 28th
Join us this Thursday at Noon for a reading featuring award winning author and this fall's WSU Visiting Fiction Writer in Residence, Scott Blackwood. Blackwood is the author of the novel, We Agreed to Meet Just Here, and a book of short stories entitled In the Shadow of Our House. The event will be held in the lower level of Ablah Library. A book signing will follow the reading, and light refreshments will be served. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own box lunch.

The Fairmount Library Club to Visit Library Today
Today the University Libraries is honored by a visit from the Fairmount Library Club. The Fairmount Library Club was founded to help Fairmount College, now Wichita State University, start a library, and it was instrumental in building the library's collections during its earliest days. This club is the second oldest women's club organization in Wichita. The Music Library has been temporarily moved to Jardine 306. This move was required due to the construction taking place in Duerksen designed to upgrade the building' s heating and cooling systems.
